Vibrant Meridian

2023, NY State, USA

The Vibrant Meridian sculpture is a public artwork co-designed by artists Michael DiCarlo and Anaisa Franco, located at the Marcy Nanocenter in Marcy, New York.

A collaboration of iAASS and Anaisa Franco studio.

This monumental sculpture stands as a symbol of innovation and technological advancement, inspired by the geometry of semiconductor wafers, specifically those used in cutting-edge technologies like electric vehicles and 5G. Its dynamic form features sweeping, curved metal strips in a gradient of vibrant colors, including red, purple, and turquoise, creating a sense of movement and energy.

The sculpture celebrates the region’s role in the semiconductor industry and serves as a visual landmark at the entrance to the Wolfspeed Mohawk Valley Fab. Standing approximately 25 feet tall, the piece is constructed from durable steel, ensuring longevity and resilience. Vibrant Meridian reflects the intersection of art and technology, inviting viewers to engage with both the visual aesthetics and the broader themes of progress and transformation. The installation was completed in November 2023 and stands as a permanent part of the Marcy Nanocenter’s mission to foster both technological growth and cultural enrichment.

Studio SaSS Led the concept development, design, and project management for this roundabout-located sculpture. VIBRANT MERIDIAN makes use of vertical steel ribs and the circular motion of passing through the roundabout to create a striking and dynamic visual effect of movement from static parts. Interplay with light and shadow throughout the day, and the vibrantly applied color scheme add to the striking overall effect for passersby.
